The beautiful homes featured in the “new homes” issue of Ventanas make it difficult to believe that there may have been a recession in recent months. Indeed, many who have acknowledged the recession are now saying that it is behind us. This publication, for one, is focusing on the strengths of the region and won’t be looking back.
The cover home of Dr. Mark and Norma Woolf in Mesilla is actually part remodel and part new construction and certainly an exceptional accomplishment for both daily living and entertaining. The Dan and Tommie O’Leary home in El Paso focuses on the incredible view they were able to secure as well as being a haven for their children and grandchildren. Allan and Soledad Brozek built their home next door to their grandchildren, and it is well suited to their next adventures in life. Up the rio in Elephant Butte, Jack and Jeanette Whitt were able to build their dream castle overlooking their Turtleback Mountain Resort.
The featured builders in this issue include some that have survived the test of time as well as relatively new faces with new ideas and lots of energy. In all cases, these builders understand the expectation for attention to detail and the advantages of having vested family members overseeing every phase of the project.
Advances in glass, rollers and motor drives are allowing more homes to open their family and great rooms directly onto their patios. The telescoping glass doors or walls that disappear into a pocket are an exciting advancement in building, especially from an entertainment perspective. This issue also covers window basics and landscaping features, and if you have yet to visit one of the area showrooms for appliances and fixtures, grab a friend and consider it an outing. The latest in bathing features, kitchens and lighting will amaze you.
