A Four-Season Patio Pavilion

From a simple barbecue entrée to a grand feast prepared on top-of-the-line stainless grills, the outdoor cooking experience thrives in this part of the world as a year-round passion. When Kathy and Jeff Terranova first moved into their spacious home in the Mesilla countryside with their son, Tyler, they wanted to share in some of that outdoor bliss as well.

"We love the weather here, all four seasons. It is the perfect weather for entertaining under this beautiful New Mexico sky,” notes Kathy. With some planning and custom design work, Jeff and Kathy took a simple platform patio that had been built when the pool was put in and created a smart and functional outdoor kitchen and dining pavilion.

Keeping with the theme of the main home, Jeff and Kathy added square footage to the deck area and covered the platform with a tiled roof. Broad, stone steps lined with mature palm trees connect the pavilion to the swimming pool area. Accents of New Mexico, such as the kiva fireplace, and a woodpaneled ceiling add character and style to their new addition.

The main goal for the Terranovas was entertainment through outdoor cooking, so selecting the perfect appliances was very important. Time and research brought them to the GE Monogram Series grill, refrigerator, warming drawer and gas burner. This gave Jeff the equipment he needed to whip up favorites like grilled veal chops, with all the fixins’ for clients who had come into town. The stainless steel appliances wrap around and meet the kiva fireplace, which gives out enough heat to warm up a cool winter night. “My favorite form of entertainment is grilling for guests, and just being outside,” notes Jeff.

Winter, spring, summer and fall, the Terranovas love spending time out in this new addition. As the seasons change, the covered tile roof protects from the hot summer sun. All in all, with planning, vision, and a great team to assist them, the Terranovas got just what they wanted: a patio pavilion for all four seasons.
