Craig began working with tile in 1980 when he was a part of a team that tiled commercial buildings. From there, he moved on to residential tiling and his own business. His eye for effects like artistic tiled entryways and unique stone fireplaces keep his tile work unrivaled and lasting. To date, his client's have included well-known builders like Kevin Gall, Larry and Rosetta Jeter, Copper Ridge Builders, Ned Tutor Builders and Tim Curry.
“I have my fingers in every job,” Craig says, using only a few other workers on tile jobs. “I want the tile to outlive me.”
When starting on a job, Craig listens to his clients’ wishes regarding tile, then he starts to plan – saving the most intricate designs for the end.
“I have to work with the house for a little before I decide what kind of design to come up with,” he says. “Then, I just start dreaming it up.”
Clients like Cris and Ron Olson have trusted Craig’s decisions while building. In the couple’s home, nearly 2,500 square feet of tile adorn the house with cut Mexican stone with beveled edges in the kitchen, and artistic tile in the entryway, showers and surrounding the back door. The most eye-catching piece of work in the home is a fireplace with 1,000 square feet of cultured stone.
“He’s so good. We just gave him our ideas and what we were thinking, and he pulled it all together,” Cris says. “It came out beautiful.”
Mark and Annette Kowalski hired Craig to install nearly 2,500 square feet of tile and stonework in their 3,620 square foot home. An extravagant entryway highlights tile surrounding columns, granite and cultured stone walls along the bar area.
“This type of detail makes the house look wonderful and welcoming,” Annette says.
Craig understands the importance of tile in a home, and from the moment he meets with a client to the time he spends cutting the tile in their home, he keeps an idea of the home’s character and the way to maintain it for years to come.
“Money comes and goes, but the tile work stays forever,” Craig says.
Craig and wife, Kathi, have four children – Larissa, Garrett, Dylan and Brady. An avid racing enthusiast, Craig can often be found in his shop with his kids or at the Southern New Mexico Speedway when he is not creating tile and stonework masterpieces for his clients. |
