In a departure from the traditional table of contents, what might otherwise be labeled as “Kitchens” is transformed into a “Cooking & Gathering” chapter, where the featured designs (and placement of the chapter) echo Castaneda’s belief that the well-utilized kitchen is truly the heart of the home, where all good things begin and where they convene. It is where families are drawn together in their most comfortable social environment. Subsequent chapters like “Living & Relaxing,” “Bathing & Rejuvenation,” “Slumbering & Awakening” and “Retreating” all serve to reinforce the feeling of comfortable serenity
displayed in both text and photos throughout the book.
From breathtaking traditional adobes to impressive log homes to the clever whimsy of contemporary techniques, the reader is on a journey with Casteneda in her search for the countless elements that good tastes, colors and designs can bring to a family living space, but more importantly she helps us discover the warmth that family can bring to a design.
